how can I tell if I have weber carburetors on my 240Z? My dad told me he thought that I had some, but I'm not sure what they look like exactly. If someone could please elaborate on this, I'd appreciate it. The carburetors I have in there right now are the ones that are in the stock "case"...does that mean they are the stock hitachi?
Here is the Flat top Hitachi Carb found on '73's and 74 Z cars.
You'll want to avoid these. (only one pictured.)

Here are the Round-Top SU's every body loves so much. (Very nice examples!)
These were the stock carbs for your '72 240Z

Here's a set of Triple Weber sidedraft carbs.
(I have a set on my '73 240Z)

Here are the Weber DGV's (downdraft) carbs. Often used to replace
Flat-tops and Round-top SU's.
People use these because..
1. They are less troublesome than the Flat-Tops.
2. They are Easier to find parts for than Round tops.
3. They are emission legal in CA.

damn, thanks for all the help w/the pics. I have the stock hitachi carbs. oh, and note: in california, you don't have to smog your car if it's 72 and below...^_^
When I lived in Merced CA., I had a '73 with triple Webers.
Luckily, I only had to have the car "smogged" once. when I first registered it
The very next day I pulled off the Flat-tops and installed the Webers. I also replace the stock exhaust manifold with a header, and removed the air-pump (Smog Pump).
I understand now, that '73 owners have to smog-test every year. That would truely suck.
