v12 conversion for 280?
I was pondering on if this was possible, as the length of the 280zx engine bay can fit 6 cyclinders lengthways, and since there are v8 conversions, it can obviously fit two sets of 4 with space left over in length. Obviously this would be expensive, but i dont think thats the point. Well, who knows I'll look into it, any input anyone has on past experience with how much room is in a 83 280zx engine bay would be much appreciated. And yes chassis strengthening would be a must along with alot of other obvious upgrades when doing something of that caliber. The Z car already looks like a jaguar.. why not mimic the engine too. (dont flame me about jaguars not having a v12, there most definitely was a version with one in it, it's just older)

Been done in a 240
I know a guy with a jag v12 in his 240z. Not sure about the 280zx though. It took some mods to the front strut towers to fit it between the fenders though.
Looks super cool.. made the car handle worse.. much heavier than our l28s.. and more of it over the front axels..
With a 6 speed and a 4.11 diff his car ran high 13's with a stock engine.
NOT an easy swap at all.. mostly done for WOW factor.. and a big WOW it is when you see it.

Besides the fact that it would sound like a classic Ferrari when he fires that thing up! That would be sweet.
Hopefully you can get it back against the firewall as much as possible. Also, there is a possibility of using a late model BMW engine. If you buy a membership to some wrecked car auctions, you might be able to pick up a BMW there.
Insurance Auto Auctions in Washington charges $200 for a one year subscription to bid at any of their Washington locations. With a dealer's license, you can buy more than 3 cars a year. Anyway, it would be expensive, but a BMW V12 is much higher performance than an old Jaguar engine.
