I have a 77 280z/5spd and I have an 83zx turbo/auto. Right now I have the the Turbo tranny bolted in but the motor mounts won't line up. the engine mount is forward atleast an inch. What am I doing wrong? I"ve tried changing the engine mounts but they are identical on both cars. Do I have to change the tranny mounts between the two? Or should I drop the tranny mounts/ mount the Engine first and the tranny last? Please help!

The first thing you need to do is get that god damned auto out of there--why would you use a 3 speed joke like that in place of a 5 speed??? ESPECIALLY when your doing a turbo swap?? Im sure you have heard a million things to support your thinking but its all crap--take that auto and toss it and get that 5 speed back in there. You'll find that things will bolt right up then and you'll thank me later when your not stuck with a malfunctioning auto that wont downshift. Good luck...

 

is it hard to shift while you're groping your cousin, sheep lover? maybe you should run an auto... it frees your hands up and your livestock will thank you.

 

sorry guys, the ghetto thing just pi$$ed me off. i hate when punks have to rip on new yorkers. the insults stop here. but i hate to admit it, he's right. get the stick in there... my 78 lost reverse and felt like my tranny hump was a fault line before i sold it cuz i couldn't stand the pathetic automatic anymore. it seems ridiculous, but get an earlier 5 spd. should line up better.

 

hey ends up it was the tranny mount that had to be switched. I'll be in turbo heaven again some time this week so its all good. I appreciate the advice that was given but I like the quicker ET's that the auto gives me, and remote start is so nice! Granted 5 spds are fun in the twisties.
