Stock or modified?
I have a 1972 240z with 99% no rust. I am toying with myself to restore either leave everything stock or just making everything look stock and have something very special underneath (lika a 83 non turbo motor w/5-speed and r2000 rear.) . Is it worth the money and time to have something special underneath or just leave her stock and have all stock components in and rebuild them?

Re: Stock or modified?
its really up to you... if u want something cool go for a all stock non modified classic Z.... but if u want something really cool.... put the L28 in.... keep the SU's... change the rear port the head... put a 2.25" exhaust and u'll have a nice street car.... but it matters what you want the car for....
if it had 100% no rust.... i'd personally keep it stock... but since u said 99% thou in a SBC... or another L6....
up to you really...

Well here is my 2 cents. Most people keep their car stock either because they are a purist and believe that nothing should be changed from how its manufactured, or alternately, they worry about ruining the collectors value of the car. Being that you have a 72, there really isn't a ton of collectors value like there would be with a low numbers 1970 car. Personally I don't think you'll lose value by modifying the car, in fact I think you'll gain it.
But what it comes down to in the end is what do you want out of the car? Is stock fine for you? Or would you rather have a little more power, a little better fuel economy, a little better handling? Best suggestion I can make is drive it as is and see if you feel like you need 'more' and then go from there.

I used to be a purist for an original 240z. Now after seeing modified examples I no longer hold this opinion. I couldn't stand looking at those original hubcaps all day there ugly. I like to keep the shape of the car original huge wheel arches are a no no for me. I do like the Gnose and Front Spoiler however. It all comes down to personal taste I'm rebuilding a 73' 240z ground up and there's no way I'd spend 15k restoring it to be beaten by a new car for the same price. I'd rather pump 20-30k in a watch it kill a Ferrrari hehe.
Gavin,

1975 Datsun -=260z=- 2+2
