Soon 2 B 240Z...again
I had a 71 240 about 12 years ago that I used on the track and street...moderately modified. I was forced to get rid of it.
Now...I'm back! Got some cash, got a garage, and a burning desire to build a another 240. My goal is to create a clean streetable racecar. Gutted interior, flares, new susp. (coilovers, rear discs) tires and wheels that are more functional than stylish (but still bitchin to look at). But, I've been away for so long, I have questions....many questions.
-where is there a great engine builder in Los Angeles area? You know, the guy that ports heads and builds a motor that puts out like a million horse power but is still a reliable power plant?
-is there a complete kit for rear disc brakes without digging through junk yards?
-what special things should I be concerned with when inspecting the 240 I am considering buying?...what should I check closely?
Glad to be back...at least pretty soon anyway!

there is a kit, but it's not a complete set - you still have to provide your own calipers from a 240sx:

the kit will work great, but you need aftermarket wheels with enough clearance to clear caliper and bracket (offsetwise). the alternate, of course, is 280zx calipers and maxima brackets
engine builder in LA? dunno about that one, but there's one in SF bay area, about 400 miles north of LA. And everyone knows Rebello Racing, with typical setup being 2.8 stroked to 3.1 making about 250hp/250tq:

rust, rust, and rust. that's your main concern. check under battery tray, floorpans, behind the seats and subframes, frame rails, crossmember, rear hatch area. check frame rails and xmember for bends that look like they could've been caused by an impact. Bring an bondo detector (ie. refrigirator magnet) to see where it won't stick to metal because of bondo. expect worn cracked dry bushings, blown struts, etc., so be prepared to spend money on those
