dude if your having problems getting your car to go sideways get on your push bike pedal hard around a corner and keep practising this precision stunt until you aquire the very hard come by expertise of JUST ACCELERATING HARD AROUND CORNER with your car. This guy must be joking and just taking the **** out of u guys!!! Actually, a good idea would be to change your motor with honda civic motor to get good wheel spin but you also need to add the gold honda badges to get that *** end out properly!

so you wanna drift in a Z? i have plans to drift in my Z. firstly you want a new/rebuilt rack and pinion. new bushings etc, to be able to control through the drift you want BIG front sway bar. 1 1/8 is what i got and mine is adjustable. i have ground control coilovers with camber plates and 400# spings up front and 425# in the rear with adjustable koni shocks. i decided not to use the big rear sway bar so i just used a 280Z 2+2 rear sway bar. many different styles of drifting everyone seems to be talking about the staggered kick technique, while going into the turn you kick your clutch in and out to loose traction. im experimenting with the hand brake technique. you should know what that is, its the most common form to drift and its quite easy to get use to. the staggered kick technique is very unpredictable. also want an LSD and 250+ hp. and a bunch of option 2 videos to learn some foot technique.

why do you need all that stuff to drift .... you dont ... i drift my near standard 260Z 2+2 with standard sway bars ok stearing rack no LSD no 250+hp ..... its easy ..... i mentioned most of the techniques ive seen used to drift and yeah the handbrake is just one way of doing it ... you dont need fancy foot work to pull off a drift just make sure u have an area where if u stuff up it wont matter too much ... the best way is to give it ago and teach yourself ... dont worry about videos and stuff ... they are all advanced drifters anyway ...

I agree - the stuff mentioned above is great for giving the car a more neutral setup - ie: less likely to flick you into a spin or understeer off the road as you initiate the drift, but some decent driving skills (read practice, practice and more practice) are plenty to get some controllable 4 wheel drifts happening in a Z.
I taught myself sideways driving and drifting techniques about 10 years ago taking my very non-sporty Holden Gemini (1.6, RWD sedan with standard small car suspension) and blasting around the muddy swamps in Daylesford (north of Melbourne) for hours on end every day one holidays. I lost it, spun, went straight, made plenty of mistakes etc but it taught me a great deal about driving cars outside the friction circle. My friend also learned that he could never be a rally navigator.
Learn somewhere safe, and if you can use mud or wet tarmac to learn, you don't quite need same kind of speeds - and it's the momentum/sudden return of grip which will get you in trouble on the normal road.
either that or grab Grand Prix Legends by Papyrus - best racing sim still (after 5 years) and it simulates RWD drift perfectly.

mate, why has nobody mentioned the most fun was to initiate a drift, the scandonavian flick. You dont need big power (I can manage it with my 180hp 260Z 2+2). You can watch all the videos on drifting, but in my humble opinion, there is no substitute for old fashioned practice. just a word of caution, dont go off the gas mid drift.....it can get ugly.
and if nothing else works, become mates with a person who owns an AE86 Toyota Corolla Sprinter / Trueno. if you cant drift one of those babies, mate just take up walking.

i can't be bothred trying to keep traction going around a corner, i'd rather try to keep no traction going around a corner... and i cbf spending the cash to make it stick.. cost less to drift i think... who else agrees on that, actaully untill you hit something or brakes something, but the Z is strong.. hehe

Z31's being an exception to this rule... my 86 300zxt suffered terrible inner tyre wear until I fitted custom rear suspension and got the camber fixed. I has some problems getting my 17" Simmons rims properly balanced on the Z31 until I got them done "on-car". I didn't think earlier Z's suffered from the same problem unless you have seriously worn or maladjusted suspension components.
My 280 has aftermarket shocks/springs and it's a much nimbler car than the Z31 was. I still find it understeers a little too much on corner entry but once you get back onto the power it sticks the **** end out nicely. I definately have no uneven wear problems on the 82.
BTW - I'm running Goodyear Regatta Touring on the front and bridgestone RE92's on the rear. (all 215 65R14 on the stock NA rims). These are a good combo especially in the wet. The goodyear compound is a little hard for the dry.
Best tyres I've ever had remain the YOKO A509s.
Check your shocks, springs and bushes for wear, and get a front and rear alignment done.

I enjoy the hell out of losing it in a corner and coming out of it in a straight line. I do all my practice in the snow and ice. The ice lets you lose real easy and fast and if you f@#$ up well you hit the snow bank. No harm no foul. I have raced cars since 84 in Ca at Sears point and luguna. And if any one is from ther you know the canyon,s, and the Santa Cruz mountains. I made it from Fremont CA to Santa cruz in a stock 240 in 43 minutes. I did however break my mirrow on the concrete wall hanging to tight. Living in Idaho I cant find a fool out here who knows jack about handling. It really is depressing that all these jacked up Hondas cant turn a corner to save their lives poor bastards.

Santa Cruz Highway 17 is a nice run. And 43 minutes is a nice time, what time of day was it .. Sure wasn't during commute hours cause you could add 2 hours to that time and that would be considered good
