Rod Cap Torque Spec

I'm seeing two different specs

The book says 33 - 40 foot pounds

Another source says 28 foot pounds

Which is correct????

Now I'm paranoid. 37 foot pounds on the mains?

Thanks

That's a good question! Torque specs are determined for the size and grade of the bolt. According to Chilton the main caps are
33-40 ft. lbs for 1970-1983.
Rod bolts are;
19.5-23.9 for 1970- 1972.(L24)
33-40 for 1973. ( L24)
27-31 for 1974.(L26)
33-40 for 1975-1983.(L28)

Torque Spec

I have a 70 model.

I have a chiltons, so I must have missed the year by year rod torque breakdown. 33 - 40 seemed tight.

Thanks
