R32-Z?
i was wondering guys, where can i purchase an R32-R33 skyline engine; in good condition? and if so, would i be able to transfer all of the torque to the rear wheels instead of the 4wd that is one the skyline already? any help is well appreciated

Re: R32-Z?
You can either use the RB20DETT(from GTS R32, already rear wheel drive) or the RB26DETT which is from the GT-R R32. The RB26 is four wheel drive, so you need the R33 GTS gearbox. You also need a custom driveshaft and and custom motor and gearbox mounts. Where are you? In australia the engine, electrics and gearbox can be had for about $8000, which I think US dollars is about half, so probably $4000 for you. But you would have to talk to a japanese motor import place to get more accurate figures. I'm doing this swap when I get the money (or maybe V-8, whichever I think does the job best on a ease/power/cost/fun basis) Good Luck.

Re: R32-Z?
brand new crate motor and trans cost about $7000 U.S. in Japan. I got to visit a Nissan/Toyota race shop when I was in Japan. They were working on a new R34 racer so they had one there on the crate. I try to take it with me back to US but the custom would have been a problem. : (

Re: R32-Z?
Ok first off the RB20 is a DET not twin turbo, R32 GTS4 is the 4wd RB20DET version, GTR is 4wd rb26dett (note R33 GTS4 is 4wd but not turbo RB25DE)
2nd u live in the US RB is a bad idea unless u got lots of money. If u want go a turbo 6 why not go a 2jz-gte supra motor because the exhaust manifold is on the opposite side to teh steering rod (RB is around hte other way turbine on left inlet on right. Plus rb's are sooo hard to get in the US u can only go through MotorEx to my knowledge. 2jz-gte also has a 6spd manual and is around the same price as the RB26DETT. Kalium is thinking of doing this conversion and he know heaps about it.
Next the GTS-T is the 2wd RB20DET R32 skyline.
The whole RB series can bet fitted to either RB20 or RB25(better) boxes and if the motor is placed in the standard position the front half of an R33 driveshaft will fit but the motor can be moved backwards giving the car a better weight distribution. The motor can be moved back a few inches with custom mounts, but then you will need a custom drive shaft too. Then there is the issue of fuel tank. You will need either a surge tank or low & highvolume pump setup plus baffeling. The GTR 4wd total drive train can be installed in teh 240Z but it will make the motor sit soo far foward that the radiator has to be mounted on the other side of the front former.
There is a guy in canada that posts on hybridz.org that has an RB26DETT and his car runs an 11.23 down the quarter mile on standard boost. He did not reccomend going for the rb for anyone in canada/states he said it would be way easier to go 2jz-gte.
There is a post by godzilla in the this forum at the moment of a 240Z with a supra motor in it just above here.
What kinda budget are you looking at ?? leave at least $2000US to install the motor .... plus mods.... What if something on the motor busts ... i think u'll be hard up to find parts for the RB26DETT in the US
No offence to all the V8 Z boyz out there (who wouldnt love V8 z's after darius' car but i wouldnt want that big heavy engine infront of my litte light weight Z (dunno the weights but i think it would be a fair bit more) THhe 2jz with a single turbo conversion (T76) and no airconditioner is very close to the weight of an L28 (cant remember the exact numbers but kalium has them) and then uve gotta pay for the extra 2 cylinders on ur rego .....
Any more RB questions feel free to email me at jake@z.itgo.com or any 2jz questions to kalium we are doing both these swaps hopefully at the end of the year but we're in australia (kalium is in tokyo atm getting the parts for us).

Re: R32-Z?
ok, ok, i get the picture. but heres a new question... if i go w/ the 2jz motor would the engine mounts have to be custom or can i stick w/ the stock mounts from my Z or the supra? would it be a better idea to get a transmission w/ an LSD on it or not? how much would the 2jz motor, LSD and mounts cost all together?
peace out

Re: R32-Z?
I don't knoe the detal of how Toyota motor fits, but here is a Idea. I would stick with L series motor, ported and polished head with triple induction, full engine management, big single turbo with big intercooler. I say it would cost about same as swapping the supra motor/trans in. But I bet the hotrod L28ET will push more HP. I got some twinturbo L29-30 from Japan for a reference. May be I'll scan it later

Re: R32-Z?
There is a place that sells "quality tested low mileage JDM engines and transmissions imported directly from japan" In there list of engines, i see the RB26DET, 1JZ-GTTE, 2JZ-GTTE, SR20DE and SR20DETT which come in the Japanese silvia's. www.streetimports.com.-Taylor

Re: R32-Z?
If your wanting to make big HP, you may aswell do it properly, throw away the triple induction and get a custom inlet and exhaust manifold made and stick with EFI/DFI.
If you REALLY push that L28 you could probably get 400hp~ out of it.....but anymore than that and....well I doubt you would get much more than that. Whereas a 2JZGTE can make 400HP without even trying....and If you want some somewhat largish HP you could push 800HP~ with standard internals......

Re: R32-Z?
just as a side note, not directed, Ive noticed people throw HP numbers around like its easy to get 500 rwhp. Ive had my share experience with "sports" cars (rx7 turbo, 240sx, 240z, miata, 510, starlet, porsche 944, ae86, starion, not all mine) and its the same everywhere. "whats the fastest, cheapest, easiest way to get 4-5-6-700 hp?" the truth is unless you started with 3-4-5-650 there really isnt.
my goal is a lofty 300 rwhp, but at that point Im not sure I can control it =) so Im going to take it one upgrade at a time, first engine swap.

Re: R32-Z?
if you cant find tires with enough grip to handle the HP and TQ, its a waste.

Re: R32-Z?
VRT.
in ANY of those cars mentioned, 300hp is MORE than enough. i highly doubt that in a car that light, you will have an easy time putting down 300 to the ground and making the tires stick. i think is is just crazy, lol, to want 700hp out of a car that weighs less than 3000pounds.
you are right, 300hp is a more realistic, managable HP goal.

Re: R32-Z?
In the miata, starlet, 510, 240sx, and ae86 as soon as they hit about 210-270rwp the car becomes more than fast, its crazy. and the heavier cars: rx7 turbo, porsche 944, and starion, that mark came at around 290-320rwp.
for example the 240sx (270 @ crank) has a hard time hooking up out of a stop light (big suprise) but once its about 30mph there isnt much below a viper that can touch it.

My goal for my Z is to hang with him.
