so what is that in bolt sizes? vatozone and pepboys don't have the ones i need so i need to get them from home depot. I bought .10-10.25 and they were to big as in thread but just barely.

You will need some beer. Once you have the beer, you will have to give it to someone else to help you lift the engine. I know it sounds like a horrible plan. Giving away beer is not something that I like either. But, you do what you have to do..

You have a very sturdy garage ceiling with sturdy beams and what not? Get some chains, wrap the chains over the rafters, make sure you get some people to help, connect to engine and hoist engine up out of the car. This is dangerous, but I've seen it done.

It's not too dangerous. Just try and spread the load out on the rafters if they are 2x4 construction. Did some motorcycle work like tha tin the past, and my bike weighs 600 or so pounds.
I'm telling you though. Beer power is the way to go most of the time.
Or you can get a engine puller for a small amount of cash.

hmmm.... i got a few questions with this thread. why didn't you just take a tranny bolt to a hardware store and get 4 of them off the bat? lol, also, the L engines are actually pretty light 2 people can pick one up to engine stand height one extra person to attach it to the stand via the bolts. you don't need a lift. i was really surprised when i was able to lift and entire short block (no head) into my van by myself. dont let the long length and "cast iron" label fool you, they are not to bad in the weight department.

well first off the tranny was seperate from the engine and i did not have the bolts. My brother in-law came down and helped me put it up. so now comes the fun part.
Things done so far...
pulled intake/exhaust
pulled the head
took out the cam
working on taking out the crank and bearings so I can take out the rods
to do...
Check the block to see how much machine work is going to be needed
get the engine hot tanked and machined as needed
clean the spare 5-speed tranny case to paint to match engine
get some +.20 bearings
Figure out what cam i'm going to use.
get an Arizonia Z 4 barell intake for my eaton m-90
yadda yadda yadda.
