oil pressure
My 280zx seems to be having and oil pressure problem. I'm using a k&n oil filter and mobil 1 synthetic. when its cold it seems to make good pressure but takes a seemingly long time from start up to put the light on the gauge out. when its hot the gauge sits just off zero at idle and doesnt go up past the first line on the gauge untill aboout 2700-3000 rpm. does this sound like an oil pump problem? any help would be much apreciated. thanks
Re: oil pressure
Yup, sounds like the sending unit on the right side of the engine. I've had two 280ZXs. On one, the oil pressure would read find at idle and as soon as I reved the engine it would drop to nothing, but the red light would not come on.
The second did what yours does. It reads very low at idle and goes up just a little when reved. In both cases a new oil pressure sender unit made them read normal.

Re: oil pressure
looks like an oil pump since his pressure is good when the oil is cold (thicker) i would hook up a pressure guage and see if that is the case because it could destroy your engine. Plus i wouldn't run synthetic in the engine uless it has always been run on synthetic (which is nearly impossible since synthetics were very rare in the 80's) the detergent qualities of the synthetic can cause your 280 to start burning oil.
