Driver paralyzed by loose speaker in Kirkland crash
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- The State Patrol says a Redmond man was paralyzed in a rear-end collision when a loose speaker in his car went flying and broke his neck.

It happened Saturday when the 27-year-old Redmond man was stopped at a I-405 onramp in Kirkland. His 1973 Datsun 240-Z was rear-ended by a 1998 Ford F250 pickup truck.

The impact threw the large stereo speaker into the driver's neck. He's in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with quadriplegic paralysis.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

The State Patrol says speakers should be mounted with brackets that can withstand sudden stops and impacts.

even though its not teh most sensitive thing for me to say, the parents better sue the hell outta teh truck driver. i only say that because many times people never get the time after an accident like this to sue and miss teh opportunity and then go poor supporting some one like this. it happend to my cousin/aunt, he got i think selemonela (or e-coli?) from jack in the box or something like that and his kidneys failed tehy lost the opportunity to sue due to how tragic it was and how sick he was that they alone had to pay for the kidney transplant and they failed on him again and being so low on the list again has to go in for dialisis every day i think? all at their expense.

yes, not cool at all. Our local Datsun dudes are talking about this too.

so sad. Someone in the Z club of Washington knows the guy and told us a bit about him. He's a youth pastor in the Redmond area.

The State Patrol says its the speaker box's fault. I say get off the f'in phone and pay attention to the ROAD! The other news article says it was a company truck.... I agree with Snwy's statement.
