need some suggestions guys

well im about to purchase a 77 280z and the body is in really good shape, it has about 2500 bucks in suspension on it, and i want to up the motor a little bit.. i need some suggestions, i want to go all motor, so should i go injection or carbs, how much lift on a new cam, any suggestions on wat brand cams and. wat kind of headers, wat brand, is it worth it to port n polish and fully ballance? leme know.

Being how as you're in CA, if you plan to register this thing then you're going to have to go with EFI. It's '75 or older for exemption and the carbs wont be emissions legal.

ah, I was going by your profile there. It says Sacramento I'm a fuel injection fan myself, but the stock system isn't all that great. A megasquirt system would be a good choice if you want to go F.I.

1st - $2500 in suspension? Did the current owner tell you that? I see tokico setups for under $500 all over the place and the poly bushings are cheap so where's the extra$1500-$2000? If he went with Arizona Zcars stuff, that's more than $2500 there. Anyhow, enough on the suspension...
2nd - Go with an after market EFI like jfairladyz said. MS&S is great. It's simple, effective and there's a lot of ways you can tune it. For the cam the MSA stage 2 is a great cam for street with a good power curve. I've seen this cam in everything from a 280ZX with stock EFI to a heavily modified Z with great performance results. The MSA headers are good. The 3 into 2 seems to be the most common and thought to be the best performing. Porting the head and manifolds is worth while. Polishing and balancing are just slight steps up in the performance range and unless you're running a professional race/drag car, probably not worth the money (or time if doing it yourself).

I have 71 240z that i'm about to do a F54 engine running carbs, and MSA stage 2 cam, with a dual exit pipe ( don't know what brand) and i've been told to expect great results from it. i pressume if u got the triple webber carbs u would run miracles. altough you might want to consider GAS PRICES now on days... i think EFI would give you near. power with bigger rails and injectors. and still save more gas than the tripple webber carb would run with. Just a thought

well im going to be boring out my block, and running the 3.1 stroker, tripple webbers or tripple mikunie.. how ever u spell that. i dont want a street cam, i want a racing cam. i know wat your gana say. i dont care. i want as much possible all motor power as possible. nice big duel exit header.. thats wat im looking into

Join a local club, talk to the local experts and have them guide you.

You can also ride shotgun if you ask nice to see their mods and what they actually feel like.

porting, polishing and balancing is the biggest thing that will help in the long run, especially if your going for big power, ive got a pretty good n/a setup using the stock efi, it seems to be the limiting factor, that and i kick myself for not balancing, it really helps the revs. get a aluminum flywheel from msa as well. getting a skull ride from a nother guy is probably a good idea, if you have a local racetrack nearby, go talk up some of the people, there full of good ideas. my cam is a 260 dur. 491 lift, its pretty nice and pulls from 3000-8500.
