need help with 260z

I just pick up a 74.5 260z. I got it running but who ever had it before didn't know what they where doing and completely must up the timing. The dissy was held in with a 1 inch washer because the timing was to far off to keep the dissy in the groove. So I pulled the oil pump and set shaft to stock. 5 degrees right of top bolt. With large shaft side facing front of car. Replaced dissy and reset firing order on cap, with #1 plug on bottom. Car would not start. Finally got it to start by putting #1 plug on across from cap. I believe this would make it 180 degrees out. The car runs but timing marks are on the opposite side (alternator side).

On a 260z are the timing marks on the alternator side or dissy side?

Could this mean its running the wrong crank pully?

Could the timing be off on the crank and cam?

Any thoughts on how to fix this would be much help.

So it does run but not very well. Lack of power and will but does not like to rev past 3000 rpms. It also has a Clifford intake and holly four barrel.

The pump can be just about anywhere depending on how they put it in. Remove the coil wire and have your girl hold on to #1 wire. Remove spark plug #1. Have her put her finger over the hole and bump the starter until she feels the compression push out of the hole. Hopefully she will feel it before she screams. Now you observe where the timing mark is. Put it gear and rock the car until the timing mark is at 0 on the tab on the alternator side. The rotor should be pointing to #1. If it is 180 off you have to retime the pump shaft to accept the dizzy in the correct position. After that you can reclock the hold down tab on the dizzy. This will also test your relationship with her, that's what girls are for.

Looking to talk to an S30 owner

Hi All,

I'm working on a car related project and would like to chat with an S30 owner. I'm happy to chat on the phone or you can just answer the questions below:

How did you get interested in S30s?
What attracted you to it? Prices? Form? Rarity?
How did you go about finding it?
What services did you use?
Is there a community surrounding this car? Are you a part of it?
Does this community help people buy/ sell cars?
Is there a central clearinghouse for knowledge and advice? (forum, message board, etc.)
Where's your favorite place to take the car / drive to?
Is there anywhere you won't take the car?
How many miles per year do you drive it?
Is it your primary means of transportation?
How many of your friends also have cool cars?
