Should I buy a 260Z ?
I have an opportunity to buy a 1974 260Z in very good condition at a great price. I have always been a 240Z fan and am wondering if the 260Z is a 240Z with a bigger engine. Are basically all parts the same and are they easy to replace? Any input would be helpful.
Thanks, Dan

Depends--- the earlier 260Zs did share some parts with the 240, like the carbs (with the '73), seats, doors, and I think bumpers. The later 260Zs resembled the 280Z more-- you can tell just by looking a the bumpers.
Personally-- I'd never buy a 260Z, I just prefer the 240Z or 280Z.

I would say go for it mate!, but it kind of depends on what you want to do. If you want to restore it to original condition and have it as a collectors item then you are better off with a 240Z. If you just want a fun car that you can modify and blast around in then the 260Z is great.
Compared to a 240Z the 260Z is heavier and has had to meet emission standards of the time. So while the motor has bigger displacement it is kind of negated by what they did to the carbs.
I wouldn't be too down on the 260Z like Steve is, if it is a great deal like you say it is then the decision is obvious.

well..., the 240z's have a lil' more hp and weighed less then the 260z. personally, i thought it wasnt a good year, preformance wise. i am also just a 240z and 280z guy. i figured that the year they made the 260 (stands for 2.6 Litre) wasnt better than the 240z's so they stopped making them, and thats why they only had one year with a 260z. but hey...thats just me

260z were exported to america for 1 year, the rest of the world got them till 78, as mine is a 260z 76.....
i'd personally get a 240z if i was to buy another Zed, i really shoulda waited and found the perfect 240z, but hey.. its a Z, and is better and worse in many ways

the reason they only made 260's for one year os because the carbs were flattop hitachis and they sucked big time. they didnt work out just quite right and people were having problems with them.
id rathr have a 260 than a 240 because they are much rarer than the earlier z's. you can always take carbs from a 240 and put them on the 260 motor. or you can just take the fuel injection system from the 75-up and drop on the motor in a days work, no problem!
dont let peope scare you off, they are just uneducated opinions that they think are facts. 260's rock.

HMM I wouldn't call myself uneducated -- DAVID --- :O) but I have and will share my opinion. I don't think I'll ever tell someone NOT to get a 260Z--- I'd tell them to get one if it was the choice between that and a Celica of the same year! YUCK!
The 260Z was offered in the US as a 74 and 75 model year, the first 280Z was also offered as a 75 model year. The 75 260Z is an early 75, the 75 280Z is a late 75.
