My zweetie is sick....

My zweetie is sick....
My '83zx na has been sitting for 3 yrs. (I know, there's my problem) I've been slowly putting time $$$ and a whole lot of effort to get her back on the road. I just replaced the fuel pump today, mostly because the symptoms were there to replace it. So, after the surgery, I fired her up, still sputtin' like before.........then a miricle. She ran like before.....with one exception. I had to keep my foot on the gas to keep her running @ 1000 rpm. Anything below that and she dies, anything above 2800 rpm....she dies. Has anyone had this problem???? I'm fresh out of ideas and I REALLY want her back on the road. Am I missing something simple, or could it be I need to jack up the raidator cap and park another motor under it? I've had this Z for 10 years and we have some great memories together. My wife loves her too....as well as the 300ZXT AE she's driving. Any suggestions would help!!!

Hey have you checked the fuel injecter. When a car sits for that long it sometimes turns to varnish and glazes them over. If thats the case, you can try B12 Chemtool, you can buy it at most parts houses. If not you may have to replace them. I hope I could help. By the way sweet ride.

No, no... check out your throttle position sensor. The 2800rpm thing is the exact sympton. Maybe its totally messed up. That thing also controls fuel at idle, partial throtle, 3/4 throttle and wide open. So, maybe its all messed up and only lets in the proper fuel for partial throttle or something. Its that little black box on the left side of the throttle body. Carefully open it up and clean all connections. Also clean the plug on top.

I've tried the B12.....not much there 'cept for some grey smoke as it burns crap out. The throttle body and air box thingy (I don't remember the proper name right now) were next on my list. I just talked with a mechanic aquaitence of mine and he said that it might be a clogged cat.
I'll try the other stuff before the cat. Do you maybe think that the charcoal canister filter is dirty?
