Hi Kolts,
I'm in Perth also.
No the car is not the one in Zoom, that one had a turbo L28.
It will be featured in Zoom when its finished, photos of the car have already been taken through out the build for the write up.
Z4LYFE >> I'm using a single Garrett ball-bearing turbo to be able to run more boost as the factory twin ceramic turbos are known to drop their wheels above 1 bar boost.

Re: My RB26DETT 240Z pictures
Ive got a few questions for you,
How much did you get the front cut for and where from ?
Did you use an Rb25 gear box or the RB26
What is the A/R of that turbo and when does it spool up ?
How much RWHP are you running and what other mods have you done

Re: My RB26DETT 240Z pictures
Price of my RB26DETT engine only, no gearbox, no AFM, no wiring loom or ecu = AUD$5,500, that was about 2/3 years ago when they went for around $8000 AUD on avarage, now they have come down in price.
I'm using a RB20DET box with a VG30DETT rearsection so that the stick comes out in the middle of the hole, you can do without the VG bit but the stick will make you hit the dash/stereo when selecting 1,3&5th. If it breaks I'll go a RB25DET box, but for now the RB20DET one is cheaper(half price) and also much lighter, see how it goes.
I couldn't have used the RB26DETT box anyway 'cause its 4WD (well I could of, but don't have the $$$ to go the full way and make my 240Z 4WD!!! maybe in the future)
Size of turbo?? well I dont know the A/R, I will need to find out, spools up as early as around 3000rpm or so, Garrett rates it at 700hp @ 1 bar. I'm running only 6psi until I get it licensed, don't what to scare the inspector and get knocked back!
Other nods, well there are way too many to list here!!!

sweet, another west australian. RB26DETT that has to be the hottest Z I've seen in Perth. Damn, there I was feeling pretty special, thinking my old Z was pretty hot, I guess that'll teach me :P What sort of power are you aiming for when the project is complete and the car passes the pits?

Hi Kolts,
do you have a zed as well? Is it a 240 or a 2 seater 260?
Powerwise I don't really mind what it makes, it will be plenty fast enough for me because of the great power to weight ratio, I'll be happy as long as it "feels" fast!!!
Maybe somewhere around 300/400 RWHP (on a Dyno Dynamics dyno), don't forget I still have standard internals and injectors etc. for now!!!
The car should be GREAT to drive not only 'cause of the motor, but as a whole package its very well developed and sorted. Brakes, suspension, steering, LSD etc...

Re: My RB26DETT 240Z pictures
I have a 260Z 2+2. I would have liked to get a 2 seater, but unforrtunatey I need the two extra seats, and anyway, my poverty stricken uni student's budget didnt stretch as far as a 240Z in decent condition. The car is pretty much stock, except for A 2.5" exhaust, and what I've been told are 240Z SU carbs.
I like the roll cage you have in your car man, it must a big difference to rigidity. What sort of suspension mods have you done? Those brakes in your photos look like they mean business. Are they the R32 GTR stoppers?

RB26DETT:
You can use the RB26DETT gear box in 2wd trim ... you remove the transfer case and make some housing mods and is far stronger than the RB25DET box
are you running the 5 stud hubs ?
do you have a web site where we can just go and read all this ?
That yellow paint looks the goods too !

Re: My RB26DETT 240Z pictures
Hi all,
Kolts >> the callipers that I'm using are Brembo 4 spots that came from a 993 twin turbo Porsche, I have a complete set that match, front & rear (btw the photos says they are Brembos!) They are not from a R32 GTR, the R32 GTRs only had Brembos in the V-Spec II version, and still they are MUCH smaller then these, the V-Spec rear ones aren't even 4 spot callipers!!! The ones that I have (ex Porsche) are the same as used on the Ferrari F40 and F50.
Loki >> I know that you are just regurgitating what you've read, but it's frustrating when comments are made and the info is not first hand + it cannot be verified by those who state it (magazines often/nearly always bulls##t). Using a GTR box "may" be possible as read in the Fast 4 & Rotaries article featuring a green RB26DETT 260Z , but as to why you would want to go the extra trouble to get the transfer case out and block up the hole is another story. Also the extra weight of the larger casing that you'll be lugging around is a joke, let alone the physical size difference between the two boxes; I know which one would be nicer AND easier to install between the transmission tunnel for 2WD use!!!
"you remove the transfer case and make some housing mods" it sounds so easy doesn't it, like to see someone trying it, much easier to get a box designed for RWD configuration, that way you save heapsof $$$ for the extra oil that the 4WD box would need to fill it up.
"and is far stronger than the RB25DET box", prove it!!! I've seen gear sets from a R33 GTR and the ones from a RB25DET box and the gears are "pretty much" the same size so how can they be "far stronger"??? Unless the materials used are vastly different, which I don't believe they are.
The GTR box would have to use some sort of "unobtanium" material to be "far stronger" if they have 'same' sized gears.
Sorry, not knocking anyone, but hate to see info being thrown around when its unproven.
Anyway, thanks all for the nice comments and btw, yes my 240Z has been converted to 5 stud wheel pattern for availability of wheels and strength

Cuong Nguyen, I've spoken to you on 240z.org forums under the name of Gav240z. I love the car and I'm glad to see that your answering everyone's questions with good detail. I have one question it's about the power steering from a WRX I believe. Firstly I heard your gonna drive this car on a daily basis so I can understand u wanting power steering but why the WRX rack? Is it more compatible than any other? or is it just what you chose?

Re: My RB26DETT 240Z pictures
Hi Gavin,
the reason why I choose the WRX rack is that it was recommended to me by a good friend of mine/mechanic and I was told that it would work with "minor" modifications.
The WRX rack is good because it is progressive, so the car won't change 3/4 lanes on the freeway at high speeds!!!
Changing to a WRX rack would need modifications to the front cross member as well as modifications to the lengths of the tie rod ends. Also note that you would also need a power steering pump and oil feed/return lines to and from the rack.
Hope this helps.

Just curious more than anything. I don't mind standard rack and pinion. I don't know if I'll have my Z as a daily driver yet so I'll see what happens.
Good Luck with your first drive.

Hi Liebl, Kolts, Loki and all,
Liebl & Kolts --> There is a bunch of guys that meet up monthly and talk zeds, personally I'm not too keen on the way the meetings are structured, that’s why I don't get involved
Loki --> I don't doubt that the GTR box can be modified and used as the other guys have done, my point is that it is MUCH easier to get a RB25DET box and be done with it!!! The GTR box is worth much more than the RB25DET one, so if your half GTR half cut came with one you can always sell it and get the $$$$. What kind of project are you doing? You mentioned that you were thinking of a RB25DET box!
I guess I was getting annoyed when I read some forums and people speculate on what works and what doesn’t, when the person doesn’t have first hand experience!!! Nothing personal about you mate!

Re: My RB26DETT 240Z pictures
Well my project is basically what yours is appart from im using a 72 instead of a 73.... mine will just be a weekend car though...
I have a real hard time finding people that are willing to tell me the 100% truth!! Every performance shop you go to you get a different story !!
Also 2 more questions
Where did u get the brakes from and how much ?
what are the 5 stud hubs off and how much did you have to modify them to get them on ?
can you use the GTR power stearing pump with teh WRX rack setup ?
what did you do with the sump ?
