Re: L-28 engine?
l28 is a big arsed straight six out of a truck. 300z little purpose built v6. I've got a 240 and it's mostly bonnet (hood) and that's mostly filled with engine. I doubt you'd get a big inline 6 into your engine bay anyway. Why don't you just get the turbo goodies for your current engine or trans the twin turbo in. l28 is old school man.

Re: L-28 engine?
Basically with the limited room in you 3z you have to stick with what you have and find the mods for the engine. That is why I stay away from the 3Zs. I would however love to have a 96 TT. But I prefer the old Zs as I own 2 right now that i drive and a 3rd I part out.

Re: L-28 engine?
Get a VG30DETT for it over L series !?!?!?
the VG30DETT will make tones more reliable power than an L Series will ever make ... for a start its rated at 250ps thats 50ps more than the turbo L Series and the VG has DOHC newer computer newer turbos better design ..... ud be crazy in short to put an L Series in a Z32

Re: L-28 engine?
I don't know if the L28 will fit. Isn't the engine too long to fit since the V6 VG motor has its cylinder in series of 3 so there are 2 rows, whereas the L28 is a straight 6 and has its cylinders all in a line. Plus, as LOki said, you'd be better off with the VG30DETT motor, but if you really want to use a different engine, I've seen in some Option (Japanese tuning mag) magazines that have a Z32 with an SR20DET. It had 600 hp and was used for the track. They used the SR for the weight reduction. I also saw a Z32 with an RB26 and a Z32 with a TT Supra motor in it.

Lies all lies......... lol only kidding what these guys are saying is true however it's not impossible or stupid it's just expensive and probably not gonna give you the benefits you want.

The above link contains information on 300zx(Z32) with an L28 it says basically because it's a good performance platform with little money and easy to maintain. I couldn't agree more but I wouldn't stick one in a 300zx go a VG30DETT as LOki Says.
PS: I have a book at home with information on this car. It's a book called How To Modify Your Datsun OHC very good book.

Re: L-28 engine?
That's a wierd thought though, putting a 240z motor in a 300zx. With all do respect, there would be little sense in putting an 70's motor in a late 80's Nissan. That's downgrading on technology for all intents and purposes. You're losing displacement for one, and two, you're making it more difficult for yourself to turbo the z. As said before, room is an issure and when you drop a motor that's twice as long as the V6 in that bay, your asking for trouble. Then you want to turbo it to make up for some power loss, and now you've got a turbo hanging off the driver side taking up more space. Too much cost for too little benefit.
