looking at a 73 240z
um can someone give me some info on the 73 240z? Its a 4speed car. Thats about all I know. Its a real nice car thats been in storage for a while. What kind of engines do they have? etc. I've loved these cars since I was little, but I got stuck in the entire rice trend. Now I'm looking for a classier car to modify.
I drive a dodge neon now, with some mods including engine work but I need to sell it.
go to www.angelfire.com/super2/codered to see it or
www.envuscc.com to look at all the cars in my club
thanks in advance

All I can say is Wow, 129 lbs of torque in that Dodge!
The 240Z comes stock with a 2.4L stright six SOHC engine. It runs dual sidedraft SU carburetors. It has a points distributor, 12v with negative ground, rear wheel drive 3.3:1 rear gear on most models. They are rated at 150hp at the crank or something like 127hp at the wheels at 6,000 rpm.
They use interchangable parts between the 260Z, 280Z, and 280ZX. You can put in a larger six cylinder engine (2.8L) from a later model 280Z or 280ZX and use the existing carbs to get about 150hp at the wheels. There is a huge aftermarket support for these cars. Anything from engine performance, body kits, fiberglass hoods, and gauges. The engine compartment is so large that you can also do easy engine swaps compared to other cars. (plus the fact that its RWD makes it easier to mount other transmissions) You can swap in V8 engines, V6 turbos, ect. Or you can put in a 280ZX Turbo engine which will give you a Nissan turbo engine that drops right onto the existing engine mounts. Those are good for 250-300hp with minimal trouble.
Take a look at the Rides section on this web page

Uhm, last I checked, torque varies directly with displacement. My neon (yes, I own one along with the Z, it's an R/T) has 133 ft lbs of it. 149 isn't that much more than 133. The 2.4 liter stratus motor has 167ft lbs of torque (hey, same displacement as the Z, only 18 ft lbs more!)
I wouldn't put a neon down, considering on an autocross course stock for stock it would mop the floor with the Z. I should know, I own both. Granted, SOHC base models neons aren't the way to go for performance - 13" wheels, 3.55 final drive tranny, no rear sway bar, etc. My friend managed to put down 197hp@ wheels naturally aspirated in a neon r/t, and ran 13.5 at mason dixon, and this is with bolt-ons only. Right now, he's actually building the motor for it. expect 12s naturally aspirated (no nitrous, turbo, supercharged, etc). Albeit the SOHC neon pictured above won't break out of 16s with the mods mentioned.
I ran 15.6 with intake only @ 89mph at sacramento raceway, and I worked several n/a z32s at thunderhill raceway, in a little neon

well, i dont know if I'm supposed to be upset by some of the remarks about the neon or not. Guess I expected a mature audience. I'm 19 and for the money, that little car did its job. Its been a great show car and daily commuter(64 miles daily)
Moving on, thanks for the info on the 240.
