I don't want to sound like I'm trying to put a wet rag on the fire, but you probably won't find one thats worth much at all for less than $800 to $1000. They occasionally come along, but very seldom.

Ya. I consider Datsuns to be plentiful here in the Seattle area. (west coast in general) and I once was looking for a $1000 280zx for a friend. I was very dissapointed with what I found. They all ran, but they just sucked in general. $600 would be a parts car. You'll need to save at least a thousand and then you can get something to drive home and fix. Or for a lousy two thousand dollars you can probalby find a really nice one. You don't need one with super low miles...

Re: looking for a 280zx
A freind of mine told me a long time ago -- Always buy the best used car you can afford. I found out the hard way - that was VERY good advice. A $500 Z is a nothing but a very big money pit. There is no way when buying a car to uncover all the things that are wrong -- or are potentially wrong.
What you really want is a car that the owner babied -- kept in a garage (very important) and has finally decieded to sell -- or as the case may be his kids are selling. You will pay more, but will be MUCH futher ahead in the long run.
