Just bought 76 280Z
hello to all Z owners and especially all the 280Z owners here.
Just won a 76 off Ebay for $1200. She looks real clean, but I will know more this weekend.
Hoping someone could guide me on the basics of "What First"
As in what grade/brand of motor oil, Tranny gear oil, and Diff oil is recommended.
What plugs to run, etc. Going to be going to pick the car up and driving it (wish me luck) 6 hours to get it home.
Looking forward to hearing from you all. Thanks for having me.

76 280Z Lubes and such
The 1976 280Z is a great car! Very sound.
I agree with using Castrol GTX oil, I use 20w50 in the summer and 10W40 in the winter, 25years and no problems.
As far as the manual tranny and differential, I use a mix of 90weight gear lube and type F automatic transmission lube. The reason for this is that the auto lube is very slippery, sounds weird but in 70's a friend who races told me about it and well I did and it works! I had a 1977 280 that was very hard to shift. After changing the lube out to the mix it smoothed right out. Been using the mix ever since. Try about a 5 or 6 part 90w to 1 part type F.
Being a car new to you you should flush and change ALL fluids: brakes, clutch, antifreeze included. It will give you a start point for maintainence and you don't need to second guess the previous owner.
If your so inclined, use a motor flush like Gunk, and a fram filter and flush the engine out. There can be alot of material in the oil pan if the cars been sitting unsed, or the previous history didn't have frquent oil changes. After flushing use the better Castrol oils and a Nissan filter.
Let me know if I can help
NGK!!!! all the way
Use Nissan gas filters and oil filters, I cut them open and theres a BIG difference between the Nissan product and the american junk.

Spark Plugs
I have used many different types and brands of spark plugs, bottom line is that for $1.15 the NGK is a great plug.
I didn't imply that the others aren't good, just expensive and for a person who just purchased a used car it does not justify the additional costs.
The Bosch Platinum plug, oh yeah...which one? the single double or quad ?
$5.00 to $9.00 for a spark plug is alot to slap in a unknown engine.
