thanks Nismo for showing me this Z on KSL! the pics he had uploaded really didn't do it justice as all!

Now for the fun part! First getting it running again! Its missing a lot of random engine bay parts and pieces and I didn't have enough to get everything from the junkyard in one go sadly.

Then convert it over to a Manual trans!

Still need Fan, fan clutch, water pump pulley, starter, alternator, radiator, overflow coolant bottle bracket, vacuum canister, and everything for the intake before the throttle body but I do have the AFM.

I think thats everything I need to make it run again...

Thanks guys! Can't wait to get this Z running and back on the road again! The interior matches the body as well! Just a few small cracks in the dash and thats the worst of it!

Long term I plan on making it look like a 240Z and Im thinking of putting the VK56DE Under the hood with a 6 speed from the 370Z But we'll see about that one!

Did you pay the asking price, or were you able to negotiate?

Tried to talk him down but he wouldn't budge. So I just paid full price. Thats why I couldn't get everything I needed from the junkyard

I was reading the window sticker and making sure the numbers of the car matched it. I then looked it up and I just got a slap across the face!

Its a Black Pearl Edition!

The Black Pearl edition (produced in 1978) came with Black Pearlescent paint and a "Special Appearance Package" (SAP), which consisted of dual racing mirrors, rear window louvers, and a unique red and silver stripe. It is estimated that between 750-1,500 of these cars were produced.
Just the stripes have been removed from the Z is all thats missing

Thanks! Yeah its pretty rust free. Its life apparently was mostly in AZ then Cali before coming to Utah where it then sat for 13 years.

Turns out I have several electrical gremlins! I have lights tho no high beams. I also have no gauges at all. And the fuel pump isnt running either. I;ve already checked the fuseable links (or whats left of them) and their good.

Fired up the black pearl today! And the engine sounds good! Still debating on pulling the head off to have it send up for a clean up and to reseal up the engine properly. But so far so good. I still need to find the AFM boots and an air cleaner assembly.

BTW Does anyone know which company made blue painted springs for the 280Z? I can tell their not factory.

MSA (house brand?) springs. Not Tokicos (red) and not Eibachs (black).

Oh sweet, they must be pretty good springs then! That saves me some money later down the road when I rebuild the suspension!

Got her running the other day and learned it has no brakes at all and the water pump was leaking pretty badly.

I hate drum brakes! HATE THEM!

but I hate broken off water pump bolts even more...

^ That sucks, yeah that would have to be a pain. That's right, you do have drums on that Z. I would convert it to a 4 wheel disc out of a 280zx. (if it is possible to do so) Anyway, good luck man you will get there. At least you got it running.

Thanks! I managed to repair the drum brakes pretty easily, but now the Master Cylinder is clogged up with crud so their not getting fluid.... Its always one thing after another!

I plan on doing both of these to the Z eventually.
