How to adjust AFM
Hey guys!
I understand that you can adjust the AFM on a 1978 280z by adjusting the screw covered by a plug. I have located the screw. What happens when you screw it in vs out...leaner or richer...does more air equal richer or leaner running?
I bought this car because I was tired of being screwed at the garage, and because somebody told me these cars are very easy to work on...
Porsche Carrera GT (great car, but very exspensive to own) Sold
Alfa Romeo Spider (fun car) Sold
BMW 325i convertable E36 (Quality, fun and solid, but too heavy) Sold
Jaguar xk8 convertable (great V8, but thirsty and poor quality) Sold

Idle Flow Adjust Screw:
This allows you to tweak the position of the AFM flap at idle thus you can control the rich/lean mixture. This adjustment controls the air flowing around the flap in a "bypass" passage under the AFM's main passage. It works in a similar fashion to the idle set screw in the throttle body.

Thanks JSM! That was a great link. PO must have opened the AFM at one point, since it has been sealed with silicon. I however is not that brave...yet.
Is it still possible to adjust the air flow by adjusting the idle flow adjust screw only, or do I have to open the AFM up as shown in the link?
If I can use the idle flow adjust screw...do I go clock wise/anti clock wise for a leaner setting.
