HELP!!! me pick a motor for 260z

I just got a 260z from a friend dont know much about it. He is egging me to get a 350ci 5.7L Chevy swap. But, I am worried about the cost. What would be a better choice L28 or 350ci. In regards to price and performance???? Help please

Welcome to ZDriver!

The choice of motor depends on the desired use, target hp / power, and budget. So is this going to be a trailer queen? Daily driver? How much $$$ do you have to spend? Are you going to do all the work yourself or have a shop do it?

I love drifting!!!! Thats my main thing that I want from this car. Money: I have about $8,000 that I am willing to drop into this car. It will not be a daily driver just weekends. Will work on it with friends. (Welding, paint jobs and electronics) Motor swap will be the only issue.

I dont want to spend more then $3,000 on the motor/transmission swap.

also, the rear axle worries me its leaking a little.

The car runs great, I just want to make it faster. 200-250hp is the goal, dont need more.

Well a heavy V8 isn't all that great for drifting. Really the sky is the limit (er... actually your wallet). We've discussed a lot of motor swaps for the S30 on this forum. Search for the blue 240Z/260Z SR20DET on youtube. A really really wild car and he probably sank $30k in it.

This is the only link I found for this motor. What other expense will i have to get it in. Will I need to get any sort of a swap kit or it fits perfectly (that would be the day)

Can I find it for less?

Did you search Google? There's tons of info on the SR20.

Yes, it is quite a custom job that will require fab and electronic work. Hybridz has tons of info on the swap too.

Same mounting locations so no fab work (will need a 5-speed transmission and driveshaft though if I am not mistaken, and obviously the ECU and turbo injectors), and all you have to do is slap on a larger exhaust and with some tweaks here and there you can hit your 200-250hp goal NP. All this and more should be had with 3000$ easy.

Yep... good idea.

And to answer your next question of where to find one... check our classifieds, your local classifieds, ebay, and allofcraigslist.

Merged threads.

I think you need a tutorial on how to use the internet.

First Google result (the history of the L motor): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_L_engine

Doesn't your 260z have a transmission (I guess if it's a 4spd you are looking for a 5spd?)?
