Hey everybody, I have a big problem. My red Z which is still my DD until I get my 260 up here with me. Has a rear diff that is clanking around, still drivable 2 miles to and from work. But I don't know for how long. So if anyone can thinkof a quick fix for me or knows of a cheap 3.90 or 4.11 diff I would be sooo appriciative. Please help. Or my combat boots will get alot more use than they already are. Thanks

did you check the universal joints, and the diff mount rubbers... for movement

I replaced all six of them just for good measure, with nice spicers. Good chunk of change finished got all happy and then drove off and noise was still there (pissed). It makes a thump thump thump noise. Consistent with every rotation. I was told by a mech I know to lift the rear end and rotate the wheels maualy and check for hang up when I spin them and I am getting a slight hang up. So he says my spider gear or the ring gear is messed up. So I called Zsport in Everett WA and he wants $1700 to find and put a new one in. For that price it better be 24karat gold plated, and bee my girlfriend on the side. I think I'll go with one from the guy's at zandzxparts.com They have 4.11 and 3.90 R180 that they will install the correct flanges for my yr Z for $250w/shipping.

Check the mustache bar bushings. That is the problem that I have with my 76. I had the car up on jack after jack until I found it. Well that may or not be your problem.
