Re: GSR VS Z

The new Integras that advertise 200hp?
Oh, those things dyno at 147hp.
If your 280zx is running perfect, and has all the torque and power that it should, you should have 145hp at the wheels and much more torque than him. You'll be off the line faster than him and he'll have to catch you. I think you'll be very close, and you'll probably win if you can shift right.

Re: don't brag.. he'll toast ya

Stock for stock, my friend took his GSR to the Carlsbad track against my ZX before I modded it, and I beat him. I ran a 15.32 @ 89mph and he was nearly a half second back at 15.77, I can't remember his mph somewhere around the high 80's too though I think. Now his car has a V-AFC, headers, intake, exhaust and cam gears, and he runs a 15 flat. No suspension yet, and I'm sure that's what is hurting his times a bit. He's pissed he hasn't beaten me since I don't have too much done to the car yet either... Soon I will have a Spearco I/C in...

Re: get the facts straight

When my 280zx was stock (1982 engine - 145hp) it dynoed at 139hp at the wheels. It wasn't running perfect then either, and failed emissions soon after. I would say its not impossible to get 145hp at the wheels on a stock 280zx 1981-83 at least.... I'm not sure on the turbos. So many turbos dyno different because the owner doesn't have it tuned up right, but they can't tell because its still faster than most other cars. hehe...

Anyway, every time you shift in the Z, you'll drop to about 3200 to 3500 rpm. That is right about the peak torque of the engine. About 165 lbs or so. The 4-cyl will have probably less than 100 lbs at each shift and doesn't have peak torque untill after 5 grand. Torque makes a big difference too.

Re: GSR VS Z

new integras are known as RSXs, and dyno 160@ wheels, not 147. And he's talking about a GSR, a lighter version w/ 175hp stock, and about 140@ wheels. It might be fwd, but he'll still lose. The ZX is a pig when it comes to weight, and the GSR is 2600lbs or so with a near empty tank. not to mention the tranny's final drive is 4.42:1

YA! That's right. The 280ZX is a pig?!? Everyone says that, but I've seen some sources that say the ZX weighs less than a 280Z. They aren't much heavier than most other modern cars. Having a fat driver might make more of a difference than anything! :-D

Re: GSR VS Z

That's the problem with a 6-cyl. It seems to have no power once you're in 4th gear. I suppose a turbo 280zx would be much better. The porshe was most likely a turbo six.
