Engine Cooling
I recently had to take off the original clutch fan and use an electric fan relayed based on the temp. The problem is when I am stuck in traffic it doesn't cut it. I normally runs, half on the dial, but if I am not moving at all, it will start to creep up pretty far. Are there some good fan setups people use currently, or should I upgrade radiators too? Anyone ever mount a fan to the front of the radiator to draw more are thru? I plan on moving to Arizona in a few months, and I know my it won't take that heat, especially when I need the A/C.

From what I've read, the fan will work more efficiently when pulling air through as opposed to having it in front pushing. You might want to try hooking up the fan via a manual switch. It seems everyone I've talked to who had the thermostat switch was not happy. I did not have good results either.

I agree with the manual switch. Every car I have had with a electric fan I always put on a switch. This gives you the control. Another thing you are going to want to do especially in Arizona is get a oil cooler. This will help keep the engine temp down, I use to live in Las Vegas and all my Z,s had oil coolers.

Thanks all
Thanks everyone for your replies. Another question, I recieved an offer for an oil cooler w/o the adapter for I think $45, is that decent? How much are they on MSA? Is it a pretty simple installation? Where should I mount the oil cooler radiator?

Questions for Prieth
Are you running an oil cooler on your setup? I was told, or I read, that a seperate thermostat should be used to warm the oil before entering the cooler if in our climate.

I ran an oil cooler on my '77 280Z in Texas and saw NO, I repeat NO, difference in engine temperatures. Oil cooler will keep the oil in better shape but don't spend the money thinking it will make the difference in keeping your engine cool. I took mine off when I put th eLS1 V-8 in and it's laying in my garage now.
What are you running for an engine set-up? Go over to Hybridz.com and post your problem on the engine cooling forum.
If you have a stock motor then the stock 3-row radiator with a good puller fan and shroud should do the job just fine - especially where you live. If you have a modified engine then I'd suggest having your stock radiator recored to a 4-row and still run a good puller fan with a shroud. You can augment it with a thermostatically controlled electric pusher if you feel you need more.

Phantom,
Thanks for the insight. What to sell me your oil cooler then? I'm running an basic setup. Small mods really, big bore kit, msa cam, centerforce clutch, alum flywheel, maybe soon some headers, 60mm throttle body, NGK fuel injectors, msa dist. and the most important...factory air.
Well, I am currently having a problem, and I'm in milwaukee. I'm just preparing for AZ!

I agree with Phantom, if your motor is mostly stock, one isn't needed. I am running an oil cooler, but this is for a road race motor. I don't know if a thermostat is a must, but I'm using a Mocal with AN fittings machined on it. One from Permacool is much cheaper, and is pipe threaded with barbed fittings. I tell most people to use a radiator style cooler instead of the tube with fins design. By far the best deal I could find anywhere was through Racer Parts Wholesale.
