i just bought a '72 datsun 240z over the weekend and when i had it checked out by a mechanic i found out that the battery had leaked and corroded the bottom frame of the car. i heard something about how to treat it by hosing off the area, applying baking soda, and then using primer spray and then rustoleum but am not sure how to actually go about doing this. if you have any ideas about how i might be able to go about fixing the corroded parts of the frame or know someone who i could talk to about it, please let me know...

I had some corrosion on the cowl between the bonnet and the windscreen. I found the easiest way to fix this was to remove the panel, strip the paint and spray some rust converter (available at a hardware store) on, and leave it overnight. It converts the rust to just plain iron. Then it was just a matter of sanding down the panel, and painting it. In your case, by frame do you mean chassis?. If it is just surface rust, then this method should work. Also, remember to tape off and plastic bits and any painted bits, because this stuff stains.

check out www.project240z.0catch.com under bodywork you'll see pics of my battery area. It's a common Z problem will require removal of dash and possibly engine if it's rotted through like this.
