Clutch Slip

So I bought by S30 (1976 280z, 5 speed) last fall and have finished the brake rebuild and suspension rebuild, now I'm wanting to dig in to the intermittent clutch slip issue.

The PO stated that he put a new clutch in recently before I bought it, saying that it just needed "adjusted" to get rid of the slip. I'm no expert, but I find that explanation to not match the problem. if there was an adjustment that could take cre of the slip, it would be slipping all the time, if not at least more frequently than it is.

When the car was on the lift getting the bushings installed, I noticed some resh lubricant leaking from the transmission, and the problem has since gotten worse. I'm thinking that instead of needing a new clutch, I likely just need a new main seal, and the slippage is caused by lubricant getting on the flywheel/clutch as it leaks out.

My thought it to have a mechanic replace the main seal and inspect the clutch. Anyone have other recommendations as to what I might wish to have replaced when they have it torn apart? My general theory is that everything on this car aside from what I have replaced is pushing 40, so may as well be replaced. I don mind spending extra, but want to keep this to about $600, 300 of which will likely be labor.

It could be the front seal in the trans but I don't think you'll get a mechanic to do either one for $600.
