Body kit for the 240Z
#27
Well, I've decided to forego the full body kit and go more for the classic look. I did order a Xenon front air dam yesterday....but otherwise, just getting bumpers.
Snow, what have you decided for bumpers? Talked to the guy at MSA and he said for the carbon fiber or fiberglass bumpers, you have to buy the early 240Z brackets and make alterations for the installment. I also inquired about the Euro chrome bumpers and he said the front one is no longer available through them and they're looking for a new distributor overseas but they're gonna be ALOT more expensive.
So I guess its down to the CF or fiberglass (or stock....which are not cheap). I'll hopefully be ordering something within a week or so....

haha.. your doing exactly as I .... i still have my stock bumpers though. lol... just gonna get the Xenon front airdam. umm... for price and strength.. i wouldnt get original... and i wouldnt get fiber glass casue then you paint it to match the car looks cheesy to me.. i say get the CF bumpers and just find the 72 bracktes which i hear arent expensive from what was it black dragon... malikot claims any who. thats what i would do.. and now i myself some what want to.. but i got my stock bumpers still so if i do... it will be down the line.

OK cool...I didn't realize you had the originals....that pic of the car from the front looks like you removed the bumper. Yeah, I'm leaning towards the carbon fiber....I'm not a huge fan of the painted bumpers either, but we'll see...

theres a pic in one of my threads i think.. its a recent thread of a blue 240 with a painted bumper.... it blends to much. yeah the pics are wiht the bumper up during engine installs and such to protect them. i got my originals though.. the thing is there is no way to bolt the sides of the bumper to the car.. at least not with what i have. so one side hangs a lil lower than where it should be... i might be able to bend it a bit and get it in place... idk man...

Yeah I gotta make a decision soon. You're right about the stock bumpers....they're like 8000 pieces and at least $1,500 cost before I stopped counting lol. So its between the Cf and fiber glass....fiber glass is alot cheaper, of course Cf looks better. Probably go CF....and yeah the brackets for '70-'72 are ALOT cheaper than the brackets for a '73. Go figure.
Next thing is I have to start getting estimates for paint...hopefully find someone reasonable for a decent job. One place quoted $7,000!!! I said no thanks. The current grey paint job is decent, I just want a sportier color. Plus there are scratches, a small amount of surface rust plus some moron played tic-tac-toe on the drivers door with a key.....

i doo ALL the paint prep and paint its self my self... clear out my garage shut everything... whipe the car down with this solution that removes all greasesfrom your hands and such. and paint away.. did my dads car it looks great...

haha.. i dont know... only done it for my self so far. lol... you would have to wait till summer or mid-late spring when the weather is back to the 60's.... maybe body prep in the winter in a heated garage... but that stuff is easy.. but in below 50 degree weather abouve 90 i think paint and stuff does not cure properly... its just not recomended to paint in those temps... i guess i would charge you for ALL supplies.. minus pait guns cause already got em. lol... and then i dont know... i'd have to figure somethign out... id rather help you than do it all though so your there for the process and **** lol... the paint can take a bit though... my dad repainted so many parts on his car until perfection if you get a run and sand it out sometiems the coat was to thin and your back to primer lol... its fun process

its joint work... me and dad. lol... but i think ive posted pics before.. hmm.. ill see if i still got em in my photbucket account and dint delete them. they are some what darker pics... i might be able to go take a few actually if thats the case.... but since its in the garage on jack stands... i cant get it out into sunlight for a good pic.

haha.. ok found some... some are good pics some arent.. and i think for the most part hte car is dusty from sitting for over a month.... besides that we stripped it to bare metal primered at least 5 coats.. primer is the eas part.. tehn paint.. dad bought thinner paint that what i would so it took alot more coats and ran easier.... so the amount of paint coats is pretty much not accountable for... i would say about 7 except for his hood... he painted that hood over and over for stupid reasons lol. i didnt help him with teh hood at all cause he just kept re-doing it... stupid **** would happen causing imperfections. lol. here is the finished product though

and it still isnt technically done yet... once its back on the ground running... gotta wash it use a better rubbing compound to buff it over ( i think some of those pics are from before it was buffed at all actually) and tehn get a good wax on it.. it hasnt seen wax yet for some reason...

Snow, I ordered my Xenon air dam from Autoaccessories.....and i specifically instructed them to send it with no signature required. So it arrives Friday and of course I'm working and not home, so I get home and find a sticker on my door saying they attempted delivery but a in-person signature is required so they didn't leave it Anyway, I go to the Fedex place and the driver isn't back yet but the lady assures me they'll make another attempt to deliver it on saturday at about the same time. So I had some plans on saturday to help the animal shelter with an adoption but i cancel so I'll be there when the package gets there to give them their precious signature...and I'm hanigin around the damn house all damn day....and it never shows up!!!!! I call Fedex and they say they were unable to make the delivery but didn't have a reason. So they'll make attempted deliveries on Tuesday and Wednesday but of course I won't be home....so I guess I'll have to go pick it up Wed. night and hope it fits in my damned car! Damn Fedex sucks!! I'm only using UPS and US Mail from now on.
Well anyway, regarding the bumpers, ordered them through MSA plus the '70-'72 brackets which were pretty cheap. They should be here any day now....and thankfully MSA doesn't require a signature so they'll just leave them on the porch. I can't wait to get all this stuff so I can get the car in to get it painted (and no....I haven't decided on a color yet lol...)
