back down again
well, I got the Z running friday night, and started driving it around saturday. I woke up today, and was doing some tuning here and there. I checked the oil every day, and the oil looked good. My head had been warped before, and my water and oil kept mixing, so my oil would look like a milkshake. I went down and had the head shaved to be straight, and it looked good, and they said that they had shaved it and it was straight. I went out earlier today, and was getting ready to leave, but I noticed the motor wasn't turning over. I tapped the starter a few times, and it started. I got out, checked the oil again, and the oil had water in it. I checked the spark plugs, and the 4th cylinder spark plug had water on it. I drained the oil after that, and there was water all in it. I dismantled the top half of the motor, and took the head off, and there was quite a bit of water in the 4th cylinder. I took a square to the head, and I noticed that the head is a little warped still.
I had the head shaved less than 2 weeks ago, and I just installed it friday. Out of curiousity, how hot would the motor have to get in order to warp the head?
So, what else could be wrong with my motor that could cause water and oil to leak?

I'm thinking you have a cracked block or maybe just a crack or pinhole in your timing chain cover around the water pump. You can check by pulling the water pump and checking that area inside. It should be obvious. When you remove a good head you should loosen the head bolts in the reverse of the tightening sequence. Don't just unbolt them. Check the head for cracks around #4

well, the head was pressure checked to make sure that there were no cracks in it. They told me it was fine, and then they shaved it to make it straight. I was thinking my block may be cracked, but what's the chance that both blocks I have (the original and the replacement) have the same crack at the exact same spot? On both blocks, water had leaked into the 4th cylinder, meaning it's more than likely the head. I thought the front cover might be loose or something like that, but that wouldn't explain why the 4th cylinder had 1/2 cup of water in it and all of the other cylinders were dry.

With that much water in it, it had to leak in after the engine was off because it wouldn't be able to turn over. There must be some corrosion on the deck of the block allowing water to pass under the headgasket.

good idea, tom. I'll take a look at it, and get back to you on that one. I'm taking the head back down to the machine shop and having them recheck everything to make sure they didn't screw up somewhere.

I just went outside, and checked the block out. It seems that there is a little bit of gasket left between the 4th and 5th cylinder. It's not alot, and I'm unsure if it's gasket from before, or gasket from this last time. Reguardless, I'll take it down, get it checked out again, scrape the block clean, and try it again.
