No, you won't be making 285 horsepower. Its a place like Rebello that will pull that much out of a z engine. The engine in my '70 240z is an '82 280zx block, E31 head, fully ported and polished(radiused, no angles on the valve job), bigger swirl polished valves , Iskyderian Stage III race cam, Isky racing cam springs, Nissan Motorsports High Peformance pistons, fully lightened, balanced, shotpeened lower half-It runs at 10.6:1 compression on Georgia 93 octane fuel and it should only dyno around 225-235 at the flywheel, maybe 200 at the wheels if i'm lucky. The SOHC is the main deterrant from a z engine being able to make alot more hp. open up

I've done the same mods (intake/exhaust) to my 280ZX, but I'd say 160hp at the wheels is probably the best it will do. Did you have your car dyno'd? Do you have a print out? Are you running the stock ECU/injector? Larger throttle body/headers? Well, you didn't say you did so I'll assume not. 212 out of a NA L28 ain't easy to do. The 280ZX turbo did about that much at the crank, not the wheels.
If you want 280hp from a Z engine turbo charge it, along with intercooling it.

Tell your engine builder he should change his name to Pinochio, theres no way you will get that hp with those mods maybe 165 -170 flywheel horses , the newman zx that was raced only made 280 hp and it had massive mods and a 13:1 comp ratio, get real sun shine.

www.et-garage.com is doing 256 at the wheels with a 3.1 stroker with head mods, balanced everything and tripple carbs.

3.1L stroker, with high compression. That's the way to make power with a NA L28. His lighter car helps a lot vs. 280ZX.
If the car weighs in at 2200 total and he's putting down 210hp (at the wheels) he should get a 12.74 1/4 mile time with a trap speed of around 106mph. It's easy to see that 1/4mile times in such a light car aren't too hard to do.
