Re: 280zx Short Shifter?

I think I did see one advertised in Motorsport Auto's catalog. For the 280ZX, it doesnt shorten the shift very much because those transmissions are pretty tight and fairly short throw. For the 280Z, the kit shortens the shift about 25%.

http://www.zcarparts.com Unfortunatly you do have to have a catalog to see the prices on their products.

Re: 280zx Short Shifter?

The real trick is to raise the pivot point of the lower shifter connector by a half inch or so. That will actually increase the throw of the lower shifter dramatically. You will need a half inch extension of that lower ball to connect to the transmission arm. Your forward and back movement will be much less, even with the shifter at the standard length. Left and right movement is not effected by this... but that can't really be changed. That is more to do with internal components in the transmission.

If I buy a kit from Motorsport to shorten my shift, it had better not be just a shifter cut down by 2 inches. I did that on my Datsun truck, but that's good enough for a truck, not a Z.
