280zx: Can someone check some wiring
Hi,
I have an 83 280zx..
I have had to remove my immobiliser from my car as it has
been playing up and I need to rewire my ignition switch fairly
urgently.
I need to fix this before I can get a manual.
Can anyone tell me -
What colour wires come from the harness on the ign key/switch. it's a group of 5 wires I think,
1 2 3 <--- the harness shape is like this.
4 5 <--- these numbers will help
My number 3 is not connected and if i can find which one it
is, I can get the thing back to original by tracing from the other
harness (and noting colour changes etc).
Alternatively if anyone can give me a brief description of the
wire run for the ignition key switch I would be grateful.
I tried a couple of randoms and got a mixture of cranking with
no key in ignition and no fuel pump, to huge sparks and a
nasty smell. I want to avoid further damage.

What Rust?

Re: 280zx: Can someone check some wiring
an update,
I now have acc, engine on and starter working, but i get no fuel pump when i switch to on (all the other things like warning lights come on).
Can anyone elaborate on the fuel pump related wiring relating
to the ignition switch? there were two more wires coming from the immobiliser and i'm guessing these must be related to the fuel pump.
anybody been here before?

Well, I'm at school for now so I can't give you a wiring description, but if you can't find the wires related to the fuel pump, you can wire in a switch to run the pump. In the back of the car under that foam padding thing, you'll see this harness. It will have two wires. All you do is disconnect the harness, and ground the ground wire (use a multi meter to find which it is since I don't remember color), and wire the positive to a switch. From there, all you need is 12V power source for the switch and you can manually turn on your fuel pump (kinda like the race cars do). That will give you a temporary fix till you get some help on the wiring. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. I found the wires I needed and taking your idea a bit, soldered an inline hidden fuel pump switch under the dash. Car now needs switch on + ignition to run, but pump turns off properly when i turn the engine off so I figure I have it right.
Poor mans immobiliser if you like but it works great and a switch is more reliable.
