240 brake conversion
I was curious about conversions. I want to upgrade my brakes and I read an article stating that Porsche 993 Twin Turbo rotors with the factory Brembo four piston calipers were used. Is this a common swap, or was this customized to fit? How expensive is this kind of swap, and what are the most common swaps for the 240z. I've read a little about the Toyota 4x4s, but what else is out there to use? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 240 brake conversion
most common swap is the toyota 4x4 with either a 300zx vented rotor and spacer, or just 4x4 narrow calipers with stock rotor. you can get more info and a whole conversion kit for about $450 from:
www.outlaw-brakes.com
that's where i ordered mine from, got a set of well rebuilt toyota calipers, brand new vented rotors, new pads, spacers, new bolts.

Re: 240 brake conversion
Last year I put the 1984 4x4 calipers [$90@Advance Auto] on the stock 240z rotor with Axxis Metal pads[$50]. It was easy. Just cut 1/2" off the splash plate with tin snips. At Road Atlanta I have had no brake fade from 130mph every, 1.75 min for 30 minutes. No squeal, but sooty. Do you need more braking than that? The 1988 4x4 caliper is larger but you are adding weight in a critical area. One of my friends at R.A. went to vented rotor because he brakes from 140mph in 50ft! so it seems!
