What's the best/ affordable swap to have roughly 250hp. I really want to be able to accelerate quickly more than anything.

looks like it has good bones, you could do a chevy 350 conversion. or you can source a used motor from CL that someone pulled. Are sure that the motor is toast? Take a closer look at it those engines are tough beasts

Well, My 2 cents aint worth much. But if it is as rust free as it looks, and the rest is as nice as the interior, It was a great deal.

I don't know much about cars but my main goal is acceleration. Not interested in going over 100mph but 0-60 is important. Any suggestions on how to accomplish that goal?

you will do just fine as far as acceleration goes as long as the replacement motor has good compression, 200 bucks for an R/R motor another great score. keep us posted with your progress

Congratulations on your great purchase for a $1000, i just bought a Series 1 for $5.5k (truely a rust free Ca car with the original paint on the floors) but similar paint and interior condition to yours. Mine is missing a heater, bumpers and headlining.

I dont know about "best" affordable swap to get 250BHP, but the L28ET engine / 5spd with a Holley blowthrough carb and a Garrett AR 50 turbo plus a large intercooler on mine certainly delivers the goods. (although this may be considered by some to be a rather archaic set up, those that i have spoken to who have actually had personal experience of this speak highly for its results (hp) at the expense of mpg and drivability- mine was set up on a rolling road "supposedly").

I was going to go the mega squirt DIY route but this set up worked so well on the first 100 miles i may have to revise my plans.
Although I'll wait until after driving it back from Sacramento to Los Angeles along Ca State Highway Rt 1 before I make any decisions.
