hey everyone, i just got home from the start of 1 lap of america [www.lapofamerica.com] here in rochester, ny this evening. i met bob & sheree murray from ann arbor, mi. they are runnin' a sweeeeeeeeeeeeet 77 280z. 17'wheels, chev 350, arizona z control arms & brakes. best part is they have spanked many of the big dollar bmw & porsches in past 1 lap competitions. anyway, i'll b in contact with them throughout the race [which ends up back in rochester next saturday may 11th] posting updates right here!

the first stop is for a quick visit in s. bend, indiana at tire rack-scheduled time in at 5am. then onto Indianapolis Raceway Park. more later...

update, the only z entry in the 1 lap is still in the game and currently positioned 44th of 88 overall [this is as of the pikes peak event]. still running strong, the z seems to b holding together very well. expected to arrive at the finish midday saturday, the husband/wife team of Bob & Sheree Murray is still optimistic for a high finish once it's all said and done.

i just got off the phone with the murray's, leaving s.carolina into n. carolina on their way to summit point w. virginia for tomorrows track event. they had zero reception with their cell phone, thus were not able to receive calls. anyway, after some minor brake problems [bob confessed that he used too low a boiling point fluid] at the first event-at indianapolis raceway park they've been playing a great game of catch-up. as of the 1st texas world speedway event they were 4th in class, trailing the 3 turbo porsche 930's. placing well in the drag events have helped their overall standing increases, as have the newly found power [bob said "i just keep it in 2nd gear-a/t and she hauls @#%!]. otherwise, the z has performed flawlessly-even in the dirt, yes the dirt oval they ran tulsa speedway in oklahoma. a bmw 740 [due to body flex] had it's rear window shattered on the rough track.

after completion of the final event at lancaster speedway [along the ny thruway b/w buffalo and rochester] they expect to arrive in rochester, ny around noon this saturday to complete the grueling event.

in case you haven't seen the details, 9 days, 10 racing events, [in the z anyway] 2 drivers and 5,140 miles to cover!

this is definitely a case of "if u can't run with the big dogs..."

anyway, i will try to get a few pics of the tired couple and their z on saturday and get them posted shortly thereafter.

perhaps if u live nearby summit point raceway or lancaster speedway, you could drop by to show your support!

final results of www.onelapofamerica.com and the 77 280 [350]z entry. overall standing of 30 out of 83 participants. took 3rd in class-vintage foreign. the z performed flawlessly throughout the 5,800 total mile trip. just as they got into rochester for the finish, the electric fan relay quit. we ran a temporary direct line [switch/fused] to the battery to get them home. funny, planning has already begun for next year...
