no spark

I just aquired a77 280 z for $50 and actually drove it home. Now I cant even get it to start. Its not getting spark. Ive put new plugs wires coil almost every thing I can think of. Even if i hook 12v directly to the + I only end up with 5volts across the coil. no spark.does anyone have any idea what I can check nextnmk. Any help would be greatly appreiciated.

$50? I checked mine and it only gets 3 volts across the coil. With the negative side disconnected it gets 12. Take one of your old plugs and connect one of your spark plug wires to it. Ground the threads to your car and crank it over. If you don't get any spark, the your pick up coil or something else inside the ditributor is bad.
