new old motor

installed a new 2.8 in my 78Z. the guy said it was out of a 76z w/20K on it. starts up fine and idles fine , but take it out and seems to run out of fuel. new tank 2yrs ago the tank is full. any ideas:

Check out the timing, AFM, TPS, water temp sensor, spark plugs, cap & rotor, wires, sensor plugs.... all the usual culprits.
