Need help to decide about 350....
I have a rusted 71 240 in my backyard.. Its been there for a couple years and i would love to put a 350 in it.. My dad told me to make rust repairs on the car.. I will do that but if i want to put a pretty powerful engine in it will it hold?? Also if I do put it in what do I have to do to the suspension and other stuff like that..Please tell me what engine and tranny is good to put into the 240.. And all the other stuff im going to need to do for the conversion.THANKS

yes i agree with your pops totaly strip thr car to a shell.fix all rust first all the power you intend to install you need that car totaly solid or it will not hold together. then why you have it striped replace all your bushings with urithane it will help with all the power.then have all the paint work done befor every thin else it will be so much esayer i wish i did the paint first.now when i did the paint in the engin bay i bedliner it it helps with the louder engian.now the engian and trany. trany i agree 700r4 this is what is in mine,or a t5 stick.
the engin a 350 is good but you have all kinds of room.you could put a 507 gm in that bad boy so dont limit your self cheek out sumit racing they have all kinds of wiked stuff.

If the 240Z is rusty don't bother with it. It will cost yo more to repair the rust than just finding a semi rust-free car. A V-8 will tear up a Z car if it's not structurally sound and reinforced some to boot.
My 280Z was essentially rust free and I still had to reinforce it when I installed the LS1. 365 Hp at the flywheel with 325 lb-ft of torque will do some really awful things to a Z car that isn't properly prepared.
Go to www.hybridz.org and read up on conversions. That website is totally dedicated to modifying Z cars.

I ran a 355 chevy in my 77 280z w/ only two problems. The driveshaft kept flying out. I was using the stock rear diff. and the rear u-joint just could not hold 400hp. I was also running a built 350 turbo tranny. The only other problem was the torque busted my windshield. I had no extra bracing added. If I had it to do over again I would brace the frame and get someone to machine a different yoke for the rear diff. so I could use a larger u-joint. Also, get some deepset wheels or spacers for the rear so you can run 10" wide tires. 8" wide won't hold on the street. Wide open throttle I could spin through all 3 gears w/ the positive rearend.

The frame does need to be solid and reinforced. My friend put a 440 in a 78 and ripped it in half the first time he dumped the clutch. It was funny as hell but he was not laughing. he re did it with a completely different frame setup, he built himself. Then that Z was way to fast.
Good Luck
