Zack, your 2+2 might have the 3.9. if you remove the speedo gear drive from the trans you can check the color of the gear for the right ratio. Black is for the 3.9 rear. You can get the find the other codes from www.zhome.com.

I would not recommend this as the tranny or diff may have been replaced. To know for certain drain the diff and remove the rear cover then read the markings on the gears. This is the only sure fire way to know for certain.

If your not sure you can raise the rear of the car on one side only. Carefully mark the rotational position of the drive shaft and the wheel. Rotate thedrive shaft untill the wheel makes exactly one revolution. if you have a 3.9 then the ds will have turned almost 4 turns. 3.7 + 3 3/4 turns. To check the gears you will have to pull the whole thing to get the cover off because it is bolted to the mustache bar.

I looked up your car and the '79 2+2 came with 3.7 gears. The '81-'83 2+2 had the 3.9. Check it out, http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/
