Exhaust smell continued...

Hi,
I have replaced the rubber boot around my gear shift, the seals around my tail lights and all exhaust leaks are fixed. The only thing now is the way the fumes fluff back into the car when I slow down off the freeway. I notice when I have the windows up, it's a whole lot better. I do need weather stripping around the 2 doors, but I was thinking... do I really want to have my windows up all the time? No I don't. My question now is, does anyone think it could be the tail pipe shape or legnth? myne is barely past my bumper, and it's cut at an angle twards the ground. I just don't think the car was like this when it was bran new. Help!

did you replace the rear hatch seals? that can be the culprit.

I have replaced the hatch seals, I think I will extend my pipe a little bit more, and just have it come straight out. Not pointing downward. I guess this is it... there is nothing much elce to do about it.

rear spoilers will reduce exhaust fumes if you are willing to go that route.

Well you have to admit the backdraft that is made on these cars when driving does take some of your exaust directly to your windows. and when the windows are down air is clearly going to get in.ITs just the way these cars were made. the backdraft on them may be altered but not removed. yep yep extending the tailpipe will make things better. however not solve the issue... you want a solution go FUEL INJECTED. you solve the issue of getting out of the car smelling like gasoline worked for me hahahaha

Take a sheet of paper and cut it into strip about 2'' wide . Close the hatch on it and use it as a feeler gage . If the seal is tight the paper wont slip. If the paper will slide there is a leak. You could vary well be getting fumes in around the doors and or door windows. Are the hinge seals good on the hatch ? This is another source. There is a opening for the antenna drain hose below the antenna , this could be a source . How about the rubber plugs in the bottom of the hatch? good hunting . Been there. Gary
