71 240z (carb prob)

im running stock l24 with carbs. and i kd you now im runing and i feel like the car is takign in too much gas. you end up smellikg like gas and fumes. but apparently there seems to be no smoke coming out form anywhere thats visible. the engine's not running well. it was then when it idles. the car shakes too much. so i give it a little gas ( holding the pedal down) and it stopd then i let it idle and it resumes shaking. dad tells me it might be the carbs not tuned or choking on too much gas. and yes i noticed the car runs a little funky now. so i was woundering if htere was a maching or small component that i could purchase at some parts store. that would help me tune my carbs?

I would also be grateful for any info on what else it might be. thanks

You should buy one of these to fine tune your carbs:

or the cheaper one:

Before you try to sych your carbs check to see if one or both of your chokes is staying closed. Have someone pull full ckoke for you and then full off and watch to see if the linkage is operating okay. Could be one of the floats is staying open and allowing the over flow to dump raw gas into the air cleaner. There is a hose from the top of each of the float bowls to the air cleaner. Take the front cover of the air cleaner off to check all these things.
