280z Powerband and Performance questions

Hello Everyone! I'm new to this forum.

Almost 2 years ago I picked up a 1978 Datsun 280z, non running.

I completely rebuilt the engine, did body work and repainted it, and got it back on the road earlier this year.

When I rebuilt the engine, the original l28 head was cracked, so I found a different head, but it was for a 240z, which meant I could not use the original fuel injection. So I swapped to original 240z round top carburetors.

It has the original 5 speed manual transmission.

I have put about 2000 miles on it this summer. It runs fantastic, never fails to start and gets tons of attention.

I love the car and use it as my daily driver. But I wonder if it is performing to its full potential. I have never driven another Z, so I have nothing to compare it to.

Like i said, the car runs great, and feels like it has plenty of pep to it. But I struggle to understand where the powerband should be in the rpm range. I've read forums and watch videos, and see that others say the powerband is uin the 4500-5000 rpm range.

The highest I've taken my Z to is 4500rpms. And it feels like it I go any higher, it will blow, haha.

I feel like my powerband is around 3000-4000 rpms. Does this seem right?

On a side note, I would love to upgrade my Z and get a some more power out of it. I'm considering going to triple weber carbs, or even aftermarket fuel injection. Any thoughts on this?

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
