260z wiring

I just bought a 260z the other day and starting trying to get the gauge lights to work and found out that i have got power at both parts of the light socket with park light switch on. I figure its got to be a short to ground somewhere. Any ideas would be appreciated.

1. Go to XenonS30 and download the FSM. Find the BE section.
2. Give a better description of how you tested.
a. What socket were you testing?
b. Were you checking voltage to ground?
c. What exactly were your readings?
d. Was the light in the socket?
3. With the switch off, what is the resistance to ground on both sides of the socket?

If you truly had a short, you would blow the fuse. It's more likely that you have a bad ground. That would be a better explanation for seeing voltage on both sides of the socket.

Yes it turned out to be the ground, somebody had cut the red/blue wire ground near the green connector on the junction block. Thanks for the advise.

thanks to haynes manual for the wiring diagram even though you a microscope to see it. they also cut the temp gauge signal wire and several other. they wired the headlights to relays out in the engine bay so bright and dim is backwards. Just wondering about the open hole on the engine block with a screen in it is there supposed to be a filter on it or something like that because mine has nothing covering it.

Wiring diagram in the Haynes manual? That is only a little better than blind guessing. Get the FSM. If you intend on keeping the car, watch eBay. Hard copies show up there from time to time.

As for an open hole in the engine block, a picture would help. Also, looking through the FSM would help.
