Mine would rub but the last guy cut away some of the front valence. Poorly done but it worked.

I just repaired mine as I am getting ready to paint and have been doing the body work. I am changing tires and have lowered the front so I will see when the engine is back in if it rubs. this vallance was bent and part of it was rolled up from catching on the tire. I am just going to modify mine to clear . I appears that it will only be slight amount of trimming to clear , 3/8'' at most and just from the corner.

I bought my 71 new. At the break in service i added 1 inch wider wheels to the stock tires and the right front started rubbing. 38 years later it still doing it when there is a small bump while turning right. I just took a rubber hammer to the inside lip of the right fender valance and that took care of everything except the aforementioned rubbing. Even after I went up a width on the stock tires.

the car is in my garage i haven't driven it enough to remember if it still did it after rebuilding the rack and pinion and re centering it. But before it gets a repaint it would be nice to know if any one ever figured this out. it's been rubbing for 40 years. You know you're getting old when the car you bought new is an antique!

Ok, so I'm a few years to late. That's just the story of my life.

We have run that size tire on the dealer upgrade dish mags without any rubbing. We also run 225/50x15 on 15x7 without any rubbing.

I suggest that something is bent or damaged. Check everything. Wheel bearings; alignment; (yes check the non-adjustable camber/caster); check for bent body work/panels; check for signs of crash damage;

^ Hey at least you dug up a thread, instead of starting a new one. And it shows the search function was used. So all in all, I would say it is still quite useful.
