Steering Rack Bushing Poor Fit

So I ordered a master bushing kit. I went to replace the steering rack bushings thinking they'd be the easiest since there's a nice writeup:

I ended up spending 4 hours messing with it altogether. The drivers side was cake, but the passenger side destroyed me. These two little pipes got in the way and the bushings were too big. Instead of grinding, I eventually just cut the upper bushing in half width ways. I still have to get longer bolts in the morning in order to tighten the bracket but the pieces fit well now.

My question is will it matter that the upper bushing is cut in half? Or will the bushing not function properly? Thanks!
