Removing the Bumpers on a 280z

I've seen many 1st gen Z's with no bumpers, just fenders. Now I know that The bumpers were extended to pass newer stricter safety laws. That being said, would removing the fenders (for esthetics) be illegal?

That depends on your local / state laws, and who is passing safety on the car for you.

Do explain more please.....

how would removing the fenders relate to the original bumper question? and then how would any fenderless car be attractive? i assume you meant you want to remove the bumpers. honestly, just get the smaller early 240Z bumpers, if you get into an accident without those bumpers the car is turning to scrap metal. also not having bumpers in any state as far as i know is illegal, question is will the police notice/care

exactly. The answer is yes, it is illegal. Even putting 240Z bumpers on a 280Z is illegal.

But, with a 240Z bumper, or figerblass bumper from MSA, then a police offer sees some kind of protection there and usually doesn't think twice about it. With no front or rear bumper you'll get a ticket only if the officer cares.

i never had a front bumper on my MG. but i'm in VA. i wouldn't worry about it. i'd say it just fell off a few miles back if anyone wanted to question it.

lol except i cut the end of the frame off so that i could put a nice grill in
