help need suggestions!! suspension too soft

hey guys i need some serious tech help here, my car squats pretty bad, and was very noticable at auto-x. my shocks are all kyb gr-2's and seem to work fine (only a coupla years old, no leaks) i need a better spring rate, according to the suspension setup guys at the track, my front end pushing is created from the rear being far too soft. so i need to find out what the stock spring rate is, then figure out what would be a good stiff racing type of spring rate. im not talking comfort here, i want this thing to handle. i can order any type of spring rate i want, just need the goods here guys.

you can always launch your car with one foot on the brake and one on the gas, but you could always go with some old cut mopar springs..

Eibachs are about as good as you're gunna get, unless you go coil overs.

Look through old posts, I think someone here made a list of spring rates of stock springs and aftermarket springs. I think the Suspension Techniques were the stiffest 200# per inch or something like that. You can probably get Afco or Hypercoils the right free height and diameter, but they will have flat ground ends, and cutting them to fit the lower seat might not work too good.

Get your car corner weighted and then call Ground Control and they'll tell you what spring rates will work best on your car.

Then you can see if the rate you want is available from Eibach, Tokico or Suspension Techniques for the stock shock perches. If not, you can go with coil overs and get the correct spring rate.

If you were a little closer, we could just throw your car on my scales. Takes longer to get the car onto the scales than it does to get all the readings...

If you really want to put all that money into it for coilovers go ahead, but if you just want it to handle much better and not cost so much then get the ST springs. They're tight and only $200. If yours turns out like mine though, you'll need to cut the back spring a little to even it out. Mine is lower in front by a little. Its firm but just soft enough to keep the tire on the ground.
Get bigger sway bars and be done with it.

i already have the larger sway bar upgrade, my buddy had the energy suspensions springs (which i have now), and they lowered the whole car 1.5", i wasnt too happy with the quality of the ride, or the horrible squat it still had.

Shady try this site: A-1 Racing

If you cant find what you need there then it probably doesnt exist
They've got tons of springs (with tons of rates) and coilover parts so you can peice together your own set based on what you need/have.

Corner weighted....hmmm so if the ZX, or say my ZX is roughly 2,800lbs and its is a 50/50 weight distribution then that would be 1,400lbs front and rear then 700lbs per corner dead weight...roughly right? Now how do they rate springs? I have read on some kind of springs...eibachs I think that said something like 300lb springs...but lb what...per square inch, dead weight....????

i doubt its that exact^^^
and hoov, launch? brake? gas? i think his is manual, if not then that would work....for drag racing. were talking auto-x though from what i read. otherwise you would want the car to squat some.

yup were talking auto-x here. if your rear springs are too soft, like most zx rear springs, it causes the front to push badly. if the rear springs are too stiff, it causes the rear to slide, and the front to seem like its sticking. that is why coilovers are so great, there tuneable each car will have diff. characteristics depending on shocks fuel load, etc.

What does it take to setup those A1 style coilovers? I mean, what all parts are needed, what do you have to do to make them work with your existing parts, etc.

i thin kthey just go in place of your existing springs, they have a tube that is the adjustible part and then the rated coil spring

You have to cut off the stock spring perch and then weld on the new coilover perch.

Hit up OlderThanMe. He's the one that originally gave me the link to their website and he has actually installed these on a Z. It was an S30, but still, he may be of some assistance as far as information on these goes. He's got a massive project thread over at HybridZ.

If you don't go with coilovers, then I suggest getting some tokico hp struts and springs. If you use poly bushings all around you should have no squat. I have this set up and it is very stiff, I can't imagine going much stiffer unless its a dedicated race car.

Thats good to know, I put the same exact setup in my car but havent been able to really try it out yet.

i cant lower my car any, and then my rear camber is screwed, and my airdam hits the ground, and my wide boyds will touch the body without flares

Going back to the orig problem... you want to stop the rear squat without lowering right? Find some 79-83 Mercedes 300D front springs & chop them to the desired height. Thas what I did before buying my Eibachs. No squat at all.
