dohc l28

I have a 77 l28 280z I am wanting to dohc it with the os giken tc24-b1z head but that head is designed for os gikens bored over l28. their block is bored to 89mm and stoked to 86mm where as mine is 86x79 with an 8.3:1 compression and theirs is built to an 11:1 to 11.5:1 compression ratio. will that head still work for my l28 with me putting all new forged internals into it. or do i need to bore it out in order for the head to work?

Welcome to ZDriver!

Before we go into much detail: have you already sourced the head? Because they are near impossible to get a hold of, and if you do, expect to pay a ridiculously stupid high price.

Also play with this: http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/enginedesign/

At that price, a turbocharger would make a lot more sense to me.

The ONLY two "practical" reasons to go with an OS Giken head:
-You are a rockstar millionaire and couldn't care less how you spend your money.
-You are building the car for the "cool factor".

Otherwise like said above, for the same price you can have ~250hp OS Giken engine, a brand new car, or dare I say you could create a monster 600hp L28ET or 1000hp RB26DETT. The choice is yours at Chuck-A-Rama.

The os giken head with forged internals would give me 420 hp 289 lbs/ft n/a. That is a beastly L28 but I do see the problem with the price. I may just continue to think about going with rb25det or 1jz. well if i do decide to keep working on the L28 does anyone know of a good place to get forged internals for the L28?

So no more OS Giken head? Just like that?

Difficulty depends on your knowledge and mechanical skill level. Have you done any engine swaps before?

well I'm going to keep it on the back burner until i hear back from the shop that is looking for one, but I'm also going to do some research for the other ideas just so I have something to fall back on. And I don't really have 11k to throw just a head and convert my l28 into a gear driven motor thats a lot more money than i was thinking i was thinking honestly the whole thing bored, converted, new head, and forged internals equaling 7-9k.

I have done engine swaps with an sr20 from a 240 s13 coupe to a 240 s13 hatch as well as fabricating own brackets for intercooler and radiator for the hatch. I have decent knowledge and mechanical skills to do so. Im guessing i will have to fab my own motor and trans mounts?

$11k? More like ~$20k-$30k. A few years ago we had a discussion that those fully built OS Giken L28's are worth ~$80k.

Yep. If you are dead set on doing some wild motor swap, HybridZ has write-ups on most all the commonly asked 1JZ / 2JZ / RB20/25/26 / SR20 / V8 / Jaguar engine swaps.

Ya thats a little out of my price range right now maybe later down the road ill piece my tc24-b1z together over a long period of time.

Thanks I will have to check that site out so I can get some information on how to do the brackets and some tips on the build itself.
