R200 Diff 3.36s
I know this is my first post, but i am trying to find a solution to a problem. I am interested in finding a diff R200 with 3.36s. I believe it came out of the 1979 280zx 2+2 4 speed.
I am swapping a 2JZ into my 240sx with the getrag 6 speed, but i need my diff gearing to be 3.30s and it looks like the best i can do is 3.36s. I have been talking to richmond Gear about making these gears but they want a gear from a diff.
If anyone has one for sale, or knows where to get one. I would appreciate it greatly.
Thanks JON

I am from Durand Illinois. If you could maybe take a look for that diff, I could pay you for your time.
280ZX 79 MT,4 Spd,2 Seater (3.364) (R180)
280ZX 79 MT,5 Spd,2 Seater (3.364) (R180)
280ZX 79 All With Automatic(3.545) (R180)
280ZX 79 MT,4 Spd,4 Seater (3.364) (R200)
This one is the only one that will work
280ZX 79 MT,5 Spd,4 Seater (3.7) (R200)
As for pics, I have some new pics of the 14 that the 2J is going into. It isnt in there yet because i am having trouble finding a diff for the rear end. Which is going to stop me from going 6 speed if i cant find one. But here are some pics for your enjoyment.

There is alot to go on this car yet. But my build page on my site isnt up yet. but in the future you can watch it on www.kougakuracing.com

The 4-speed 1979 280ZX is rare. In fact, I've read in Nissan Factory Service manuals that they exist but I have never seen one in person or even in anyone that I have known online that actually has one. Then to find one in a 2+2 body would be even more rare.
How about a 1974 260Z 2+2 with a manual transmission? I believe those are to be an R200 3.36 as well. As rare as those are, I have seen them around.
and 3.36 with a 6-speed??? are you planning to go 190mph or something? that's pretty tall gearing. I would think a 3.7 would be fine with a tall overdrive
Nice welding work there too

I very well could go with one, if i could get the gearing down to about 3.26-3.36 range. With putting in the getrag transmission out of the supra and the high ratio in the 240 diff, It would make my 6 speed a 5 speed, there would be no 1st gear. So i need a R200 with lower ratio. Once i get my hands on it, I will send it to richmond gear to get a bunch made.
I can stick with the stock diff and go with the toyoto R154 5 speed and I would be fine. but im want to shoot for the six speed.

But yes bottom line is R200 diff with 3.36s thats all i need but i was under the impression that it the 1979 2+2 was the only year they came in.
Here is the list that someone sent me

hmmm... i wish i knew a way of telling what the rear end is my dad is pulling from hhis car.... its got a much fatter drive shaft than normal so the flange is diff from the normal s30 style rear end.. and even diff from the R200 we pulled from my 83 2+2.... its just.. bigger... and i think an R200.... dont know they gearing though... its a mystery
#9
you are correct, those were R180's back in 1974 not the R200
wow... good luck finding one and those Supras are geared tall!
I suppose you could throw in a 3.54 temporarily to get you on the road when the time comes if you still haven't found a 3.36
its better than nothing
I actually remember someone trying to sell one on Zcar.com a while ago. I think they wanted $200 and I was thinking "who wants to buy a tall gearing like that??!" except maybe someone with a 500hp turbo

Yeah, gearing like that is crazy high. If i cant find one, Im just going to have richmond gear make me a custom ring and pinion, but im looking at buying 30 gear set then. But either way i should be ok.

Find what the ring and pinion tooth count is. One of the other R200 gearsets might have a matching component. Then you'd only have to have one part made to get the 3.36 going
as in, the 3.7 and 3.9 both share the same ring.
37/10 - 39/10

Great Idea, if anyone know let me know. Till then I will search the internet to see if i can find that out.

Found It....

Also with some more digging. I have found this post, on another site.
I dont think the 260z 2+2 has a r200. I have a 260z 2+2 and it has a r180 3.36
Wait, now i am confused. I thought i had a r180. But the r200 in that pic looks like my diff.

Don't get confused. You have an R180 w/3.36 ratio.
260 2+2 with manual IS an R200 3.36. The 260 2+2 auto has R180.
Can anyone confirm this, if this is the case, I guess i could get it out of a 260 too.

I also found this link. Take a look, but it throws me off to factory listings.

Well, you can't always trust what you read on the internet.
In 1974 I don't even know if Nissan had made the R200 yet. Every IRS Datsun had the R160 or R180.... so I would guess that the 260Z does indeed have only the R180.
Find a 1974 260Z Factory Service Manual... or find someone that has one and have them scan the page in the "manual transmission" section that lists the gear ratios including the rear.
11:37 (=3:36)
ok, now find the ring and pinion sets for all the others.
3.54, 3.7, 3.9, 4.11
See if any of those have a 11 or 37 tooth gear. Then have the other one that does not match made up custom.
